Video Killed the Radio Star: Making Effective Collections Care Videos

When it’s time to show off and present your institution’s amazing collections care accomplishments the formats seem endless. Should you aim for a 1-hour lecture or a 10-minute video? Your answer can make all the difference on how effectively your message is received and how efficiently you spend your time. Is this due to advances in technology? Probably. Can we use that to our advantage? Absolutely!

Using basic, low-cost technology to create digital media of collections care activities can help institutions generate buy-in and advocate for much-needed resources. Also, sharing tips and tricks with colleagues, either in your institution or around the world, is much easier using digital media and has the benefit of keeping this knowledge available for years and years to come.

This presentation will show basic no fuss (and no IT department) ways to create videos and other digital content to bring your collections care skills into the limelight. We will discuss hardware and software for all budgets and skillsets. But most importantly, we will review how to determine which type of digital media is right for you and your audience.
