Most of us have papers, documents, photographs and books inherited from parents and grandparents or gathered as mementos of our own lives: our parents’ wedding picture, a great-grandfather’s immigration certificate, even the volume of verse we bought at college and still like to refer to on occasion. A home library may represent a substantial investment spent over a long periods of gathering important professional books or favorite leisure reading.
