From Project to Perpetuity: How St. Kate’s Built a Lasting Outdoor Sculpture Corps
It is not uncommon for cultural institutions to have a quantity of sculpture located out of doors. However, because such works are installed outside, often on a permanent basis, they are especially at the mercy of such things as the elements, age, vandalism, and more. If long-term maintenance of outdoor sculpture is to be carried out, annual preventative conservation as well as regular monitoring must be done. This webinar offers up a case study of sorts, in the form of a project that St. Catherine University (St. Kate’s), in Saint Paul, Minnesota, completed in 2023/2024 through the creation of an Outdoor Sculpture Corps. The Corps not only performed outdoor sculpture care for works located on the St. Kate’s campus, but is also structured so as to continue to do this work into perpetuity.

Presenter
Jennifer Adam, Visual Resources Curator, Art & Art History Department, St. Catherine University
Jennifer Adam is the Visual Resources Curator in the Art & Art History Department at St. Catherine University (St. Kate’s) in Saint Paul, Minnesota, a position she has held since 2005. Jennifer also is an adjunct instructor in the Fashion Design and Merchandising program at St. Kate’s, teaching Fashion Illustration and Portfolio Development and Flat Construction using Advanced Computer Techniques. Jennifer has a Master’s degree in Art History from the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, and a Bachelor’s degree from St. Kate’s in Political Science, with a minor in Studio Art. In her free time, Jennifer is an artist and illustrator who works in a variety of media.
